The Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) have dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its refusal to make use of the temporary voter cards for the forthcoming general elections.
The suit which was originally filed by a civil society group under the aegis of Society for Advancement and Protection of Public Rights, SAPPR , has the APC, PDP and the Incorporated Trustees of Fiscal & Civil Right Enlightenment Foundation as co-defendants.
According to Vanguard, the court action is to compel INEC to make use of both the permanent and temporary voter cards for the forthcoming general elections.
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court yesterday, February 23, joined Buhari as a co defendant after Buhar’s councel persuaded the court to allow him be joined in the suit.
Though it was only Buhari and the APC that initially applied to be joined, the PDP through its lawyer Mr. I. A. Adeoke, SAN, urged the court to also allow it enter into the matter as a party.
Delivering a short ruling on the applications, Justice Abdul Kafarati granted all the applications and joined Buhari, APC, PDP and the Incorporated Trustees of Fiscal & Civil Right Enlightenment Foundation, as the 3rd, 4th and 5th defendants, even as he adjourned the matter till March 18 for mention.
It would be recalled that some groups in January called on INEC to allow Nigerians to use temporary voter cards alongside permanent voter cards to exercise their franchise in the coming general elections over fears that many Nigerians could be disenfranchised if the Electoral body insisted that only registered voters with the PVC would be allowed to participate in the poll.
