The United States commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his recent visit to Maiduguri where he addressed Nigerian troops as well as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS)
During a daily press briefing in Washington, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said the visit is an important one, which would show Nigerians how seriously the president considers the threat by the terrorist group. "Anytime you can demonstrate to your people that you take a terrorist threat seriously, no matter when, is probably important," she added.
Harf also commended the government's efforts to ensure IDPS participate in the February general elections, saying the United States does not believe any group of persons deserve to be disenfranchised on account of their present predicament.
Jonathan's visit to Maiduguri on Armed Forces Remembrance Day received commendation from local and foreign observers, who are of the opinion that it will go a long way in boosting the morale of Nigerian troops
